Midland, MI - May 01, 2007
The Dow Chemical Company will host the state competition for the "You Be The Chemist Challenge" on May 5, 2007. The event, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be held at the Dow Employee Development Center (EDC) at the corner of Patrick and Abbott roads in Midland.
Approximately 22 students from across the state will be participating in the event. Winners of the state competition will advance to the national competition scheduled for June 15, 2007, at the Chemical Heritage Foundation in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Chemical Educational Foundation created the National You Be The Chemist Challenge aiming to engage students in grades 5-8 in a dynamic event that partners members of the chemical industry with schools and organizations in the communities in which they operate. The challenge is a progressive competition, starting in the class room, advancing to the county, state and then national championship. The idea behind the challenge is to involve members of the chemical industry in outreach initiatives that encourage educators and students to learn more about chemistry.
The event is not open to the public. However, media is invited to attend, but you must RSVP to Smallwood Holoman at 989-636-9448.
